Location: ISCTE, Building 2, Room C103

Instructor

Aim of the workshop

  • to introduce methods and tools for data ethnography

What will be going on in the workshop

The workshop presents the emerging field of data ethnography, where qualitative methods meet quantitative. We will get to know about computational anthropology, what it is and how it relates to other subfields of anthropology. We will review software tools and solutions that help anthropologists gather and analyze the data, learn where and how to get the data and define what kind of research problems benefit from quantitative analysis. Selected approaches will be demonstrated on a use case from a sensor and cultural heritage data. Participants are encouraged to work with the lecturer and will have a practical task at the end.

Gained skills

  • knowledge of methods and approaches in computational anthropology and data ethnography
  • basic familiarity with software tools

Preparatory work
