Biography

Petra Smutná is a graduate of socio-cultural anthropology at Charles University in Prague. She conducted her MA ethnographic research on the topic of Latin American salsa dance as a commercialized product. Her research was focused on the commercialization of cultures and comodification of Latin American identities

What she considers as the key for understanding today’s dynamic world, it is the possibility of anthropological research in going deep down into a certain topic and revealing people’s emotions, feelings, needs, and opinions. In future, she would like to become an applied anthropologist focused on business anthropology. However, she would like to discover other disciplines where anthropological research could be utilized. She’s also interested in the integration of Latin-American, Spanish & Czech cultures.

Petra is devoted to Spanish, travelling and, of course, she loves to dance salsa.
